BallotBoxIndia treats a district's development like a shared fund, and every socio-political innovator — leader, NGO, business, expert, journalist, activist — like a contributor whose impact we try to measure. The scores here are an experiment to tell apart what an innovator actually moved (नेता का हाथ · their real contribution) from what circumstance carried (हालात · the wave).

About this research

Lets first take the case of western world. In a small city of the USA they wanted to upgrade gas pipe lines running under the roads(Title Video).

Day 1.- Two guys came and made two slits on the road.

Day 2.- 3-4 Guys came and scooped out the road, by the afternoon the job was done, with road back to motor-able.

India public works division never has this efficiency. No one knows why the road was dug up? Who dug it up(contractor)? when will it be over and when over would the road return to original shape or get better/worse? Above all who is responsible for the maintenance (there are multiple and overlapping agencies and job contracts given.)?

With already scarce resources its just not possible to monitor the quality of public works at the policy formulation and implementation level by government bodies, contractors and municipal department.

A high level of citizen involvement is required to keep an eye on their roads, know about them and nurture them. Indian roads are heavily used and if a few concerned citizens using them daily, start to think of them as part of their own real estate - which is actually true, everyone does own a small piece of the road, just a matter of staking the claim and taking responsibility. Indian roads will be at par with any set of best roads in the world.

1. Lets build local groups monitoring the roads in the area. Show this video to everyone around you to spread general awareness.
2. Build a group with friends in your area and adopt a road you are most familiar with.
3. Register such a group on ballotboxindia as an action group to get your contribution to the society documented.
4. With shared effort keep an eye on general maintenance of the road.
4. Report and discuss any dug-ups, maintenance needed in the action group and involve all the concerned citizens to take action          quickly as needed.

Roads are lifeline for any community. A broken/dug up/not maintained road, apart from resulting in huge wastage and inconvenience- gives a bad name to the community. On the other hand well maintained roads are like life lines and help active citizens around shine.
